Clifford’s Tower, More Than Just Panoramic Views

The tower is believed to stand on the site of an earlier wooden stronghold called Eureka, which was destroyed during a massacre of the local Jewish population in 1190. It is also thought to be the site where Richard III held his coronation banquet in 1483.

In recent years, the tower has undergone a major renovation, with the help of Historic England. The project was funded by a Heritage Lottery Grant and has seen the tower completely refurbished, with new features and accessibility improvements. The tower now features a new café, interactive displays, and an audio-visual experience to help visitors learn more about the history of the tower.

The new features have made the tower a must-see attraction in York. Visitors can now experience the tower from many different perspectives, thanks to the audio-visual experience and the interactive displays. For those looking to learn more about the history of the tower, there is a range of resources available, including a range of leaflets and guides.

Overall, the upgrades to Clifford’s Tower have made it a must-see attraction in York. With its rich history and array of new features, visitors will love exploring this iconic symbol of the city.
